When talking about the challenges of remote work, one often hears about the lack of connectivity and the isolation that follows, as well as the difficulties of staying productive with all the distractions of being at-home with less oversight from one’s manager. However, a new study from Colliers International now shows that these challenges may not be as substantial as one may think.

The study, including some 3000 answers from 25 countries, shows that “76% of respondents still feel connected to their team while working remotely, despite the physical distance”, which could (if we may speculate) be partially explained by the fact that 3/4 of responders collaborate with said team virtually. Furthermore, the study found that more than half of responders don’t think the move to remote work has affected their productivity, all while 24 % has seen an increase and 23 % think the opposite is true.

These findings indicate that, while there are still challenges to overcome, they’re actually not so prevalent when it comes to productivity and connectivity. Which bodes well for the future of work, as remote work is here to stay and may just become the new standard in the post-pandemic world of tomorrow.

“This global experiment in suddenly having to work remotely has shattered a lot of myths about what is possible while at the same time emphasizing the value of being connected.  This collective experience has accelerated our move into a future where work and life, workplace and home are blended, and hopefully balanced,” says Keith Perske, who’s a Senior VP over at Workplace Advisory at Colliers.
