Hi Nancy! Tell us about Q5X
Q5X manufactures wireless audio transmitters that allow talents to perform, and accomplish their task. Our transmitters are small, flexible, and have been used on basketball players in the NBA for the last two years.
Transmitters are worn in the jersey of the basketball player, and Nike manufactures the jerseys for the NBA with a slot specific for the Q5X transmitters. This allows the audience at home to hear the sounds of the athletes as they’re going through their game environment.
We also use our transmitters in reality TV, film and theatre – anywhere that the audience wants to hear the sounds from the actor without a stick mic or a boom mic overhead.
Why did you invest in SP CE?
Trying to bite off the world in multiple industries, all at the same time, was very challenging. We had a ragtag collection of dealers that were scattered over the world, and no real coordination of the information they received, how they were trained, and what they truly understood. And then we had an opportunity to access a 300 dealer partnership, and needed to grow up very quickly.
We were communicating innovative concepts to people who were representing us in the rest of the world, and needed tools that enabled us to present ourselves as organized and clear. And SP_CE was the perfect answer.
Can you name one core benefit you get from using SP CE?
Without a platform, we can service the US and visit four or five dealers a week. But we can’t cover the world. We don’t speak their language, and each of them has a different industry focus.
With SP_CE, we can organize our material so that the dealers themselves can customize it, make it fit their audience, and get the literature necessary to make them successful.

Give us your best pitch for Q5X products
The unique thing about Q5X is this: we have no buttons on any of our gear. Everybody else’s gear is full of buttons. That gear then ends up on the talent. And the talent is nervous. They press buttons, they remove batteries, they pull out the microphone because they’re not used to being in that environment.
We remove that risk by placing all of the controls in a Mic Commander remote control, and that stays in the hands of the audio technician. So they can control the frequency and the gain from across an Aussie Rules football field without interacting with the talent.
